at&t Relay Services
Overview
AT&T’s online Video Relay Service (VRS) allows deaf and hard-of-hearing people to sign rather than type.
Why VRS Relay?
Because it’s easier! With VRS, you don’t type messages. You simply use sign language just as if you were there in person.
All you need is a computer, a high-speed Internet connection, and a webcam or videophone and you’re set. Just log on and connect to a Video Interpreter.
You can call any standard phone anywhere in the world for free, as long as the call originates from the U.S. and its territories.
How it Works
Once you log in to the webcam, you’ll see two video windows.
- The caller appears in one video window, and the Video Interpreter appears in the other.
- As you sign, the Video Interpreter translates your message into speech for the person on the other end of the line to hear.
- The Video Interpreter then translates the hearing person’s reply back into sign language for you to watch in the video window
Remember, calls made from the U.S. are free. So feel free to ramble on.
