911 Information & Limitations

Internet Relay (“IP Relay”) is NOT for emergency calls. AT&T IP Relay is not a substitute for 911 service. IP Relay does not recognize your physical location and thus, AT&T cannot forward your location to an emergency center on emergency calls made with IP Relay. Please use your telephone or TTY to call your local emergency service number directly. They remain the best options for placing a 911 call because information about your location will be passed automatically to emergency service personnel. If you make an emergency call using IP Relay, AT&T will make every effort to transfer the call to an emergency center without location information. However, AT&T is not liable for damages for emergency calls placed over IP Relay.

IM Relay and e911

If you are an IM user, you may register your physical location with AT&T and obtain a 10-digit phone number, which you can use to complete emergency 911 calls.
