Step by Step Instructions for VCO-to-VCO Relay Calls

Please note: Your TTY should be set to Baudot mode.

  1. Dial 711 or 1-800-855-2881 to reach a VCO relay Communication Assistant directly.
  2. When the message "RC NBR CALLING PLS GA" appears on your TTY display screen, type the area code and telephone number you are calling followed by "VTV GA." If you prefer to give the Communication Assistant the number verbally, type "VTV PLS GA" and wait for the Communication Assistant to come on the line.
  3. You will connect to a Communication Assistant. If you have typed in the number, the Communication Assistant will type "VTV ON." If you have not typed in the number, the Communication Assistant will type "VTV ON GA" to signal you to provide the number verbally.
  4. The Communication Assistant will now dial your call. When the other VCO user answers, the Communication Assistant will announce the call as VTV and inform them to speak directly into their receiver.
  5. Once the Communication Assistant finishes relaying the other VCO user’s message to you and types "GA," pick up your handset and speak directly into the receiver. Please say "GA" when you are ready for a response.
  6. Continue this process throughout the duration of your call. When you are ready to hang up, say "Signing Off" then hang up.
