Basic VCO

Step by Step Instructions for Basic VCO Relay Calls

  1. Please note: Your TTY should be set to Baudot mode.
Dial 711 or 1-800-855-2880 to reach a VCO relay Communications Assistant directly.
  2. When the message "RC NBR CALLING PLS GA" appears on your TTY display screen, type the area code and telephone number you are calling followed by "VCO GA." If you prefer to give the Communications Assistant the number verbally, type "VCO GA" and wait for the Communications Assistant to come on the line.

Note: If you have created a Relay Choice Profile, all of your VCO calls will be automatically set up. You can save time on every call you make or receive after you create your profile, since you will be connected with VCO already activated.

VCO can be automatically setup by creating a relay choice profile. This will ensure that all relay calls you make and any relay calls you receive will be connected with VCO already activated.
  3. You will connect to a Communications Assistant. If you have typed in the number, the Communications Assistant will type "VCO ON." If you have not typed in the number, the Communications Assistant will type "VCO ON GA" to signal you to provide the number verbally.
  4. The Communications Assistant will now dial and announce your call in the same way described under Standard TTY Relay Calls.
  5. Once the Communications Assistant finishes relaying the hearing person’s message to you and types "GA," pick up your handset and speak directly into the receiver. The person you have called will hear you.
  6. Please say "GA" or "Go Ahead" when you are ready for a response.
  7. Continue this process throughout the duration of your call. When you are ready to hang up, say "bye sksk" then hang up.
