With CapTel 800 and/or 840, callers dial the Captioning Service first and enter your phone number.
(If you use CapTel 800 and/or 840 in the optional 2-Line mode, people can call your number directly, they do not have to dial the service first.)
The CapTel phone works like any other telephone with one important addition: it shows captions of everything the other party says during a phone call. You can listen to the caller and can also read written captions in the CapTel display window.
Captions are provided by a free service that connects to every call you place. People who call you dial the service first, then enter your phone number so that you can see captions during their call.
